In MediaTracks we are committed to diversity and inclusion at our core, which is why we set out a research plan in order to assess our diversity status.

At MediaTracks, we’re committed to developing an inclusive community that welcomes individuals from all backgrounds. For our music to connect with the world, it needs to reflect the world, and developing diversity is a key priority for us as a business. This commitment feeds through into everything we do, from the composers and artists we work with to the way we curate and market our music and so much more. When recruiting the MediaTracks team, commitment to inclusivity was also a key consideration to ensure that we have the right people in place to take this mission forward.

Diversity Report 2024

We have just released our 2024 Diversity Report, which is an update to our 2022 edition. Read the report using the link at the top and learn more about our growth and development in EDI.

Since our 2022 report, MediaTracks has made substantial strides in advancing our commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (EDI). Our ongoing efforts have led to significant achievements and a stronger foundation for future progress. Here’s a comprehensive overview of our advancements from 2022 to 2024:

Achievements

1. Diversification of Our Team: We have made notable progress in diversifying our team, both in terms of staff and artists. The percentage of female composers has increased dramatically from 9% to 30.33%, and our efforts to include a broader range of ethnicities and backgrounds are reflected in our evolving roster.

2. Strengthened Partnerships: Our partnerships with various EDI organisations have expanded and deepened. Key developments include:

  • Leeds Conservatoire: We’ve launched Quarry Music, a student-led label that has published five albums and continues to support emerging talent.
  • Can Do Musos and Carousel: We successfully released the Paralympics album and conducted impactful workshops. Both organisations have been instrumental in promoting inclusivity.
  • Music Production for Women: We introduced the 'She Creates' competition, empowering female artists and fostering their growth.
  • Keychange: We’ve signed the Keychange Pledge and have surpassed our commitments to it.
  • MOBO Unsung and In The Making (ITM): Collaborated on our Production Music Writing Camp for Black and Ethnic Minority Composers to enhance representation.
  • MU and Come Play With Me: Collaborated to increase LGBTQIA+ representation, working with their networks and supporting artists from marginalised communities.
  • Our writing camps have also allowed us to work closely with composers from various cultures, such as our Latin Writing Camp in November 2023 and our Welsh Writing Camp in July 2024

3. Implementation of EDI Policies: We have introduced robust internal and external EDI policies. Our internal Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion policy now applies to all staff, and we require our clients to align with these standards through contracts. Additionally, we’ve committed to maintaining at least 50% female composers in new signings and 20% of monthly releases from diverse backgrounds.

4. Data Collection and Research: Our EDI survey has established a solid foundation for tracking diversity within our community. We’ve committed to updating this data bi-annually to better inform our practices and measure progress.

5. Focused Purchases: We’ve aligned our procurement processes with EDI values by working closely with partners like TYX and Tileyard, and engaging with sub-publishers and international distributors who support our EDI initiatives. We continue to encourage staff participation in diversity-focused educational programs, such as Maria’s involvement in the MPA's NXT-Gen program.

Action Points for 2024 and Beyond

1. Data Monitoring and Growth:

  • We will continue to monitor the data of our composers and conduct bi-annual diversity surveys. This ongoing effort will help us track our growth, identify areas for improvement, and ensure that our EDI initiatives are effectively addressing the needs of our diverse community.

2. Policy:

  • Five-Year EDI Plan: We are developing a comprehensive long term plan with our EDI partners, which will be integrated with our long-term catalogue projection plan, reinforcing our dedication to sustained progress.

3. Partnerships:

  • Expand Networks: We will continue to build on our existing partnerships and explore new collaborations with diverse cultural groups, aiming to further enrich our network and impact.

In conclusion, MediaTracks remains steadfast in our mission to foster a diverse, equitable, and inclusive environment. We recognise that while significant progress has been made, there is always more to be done. We are committed to continuously improving and will provide regular updates on our progress in future reports.
